Roscoe was abandoned
Roscoe was left chained to a crate in a deserted house in southern Illinois. They left some straw near him to help keep him warm. They also tried providing the little puppy some food by throwing him some pet food once a week.
Despite the despicable treatment he has been experiencing, Roscoe remained hopeful. He kept waiting for someone to come and at least feed him. But winter was on its way and we all know nature has its own time and waits for no one. When the snow started to blanket Roscoe’s neighborhood, the poor canine had a very slim chance of survival out in the cold.
It was a good thing that someone had been watching over him after all. An unnamed Samaritan called the Animal Control of Effingham County and reported the condition of the abandoned pup. The call came the day after heavy snow fell in the area, which could mean great danger for the little puppy.
Michelle Shoot and Vanessa Skavlem immediately responded. They both knew that the puppy must be shivering to death with the current weather condition. Their quick response literally saved the little pooch. He was so tiny and only weighed around 10 pounds that he could not have survived the cold for another night.
When Roscoe noticed that people were coming for him, he happily ran to greet them. The responders lovingly bundled him up in a warm blanket and brought him to the shelter. Vanessa was amazed at how Roscoe was acting like a champ, whining happily and expressing his gratitude for being rescued.
The happy pooch eventually relaxed after sharing some food with his rescuers. He could not contain his big smile while he enjoyed snuggling into Michelle’s arms. That idyllic moment was captured by Vanessa and shared on Facebook with a caption highlighting Roscoe’s happiness after being rescued from the freezing snow.
Roscoe is now enjoying a warm and safe environment in the shelter. But the adorable puppy deserves a forever home.
