Dogs who can’t be taken care of properly by their humans are normally taken to nearby shelters for momentary refuge with the hope of getting adopted in the coming days. While there are times these pooches get adopted right away, there are times when dogs remain in the shelter until old age catches up to them.
This is the case for a 14-year-old Pit Bull mix, Wiggles, who spent most of her life waiting and hoping for a perfect family to come by. The pooch’s age and health problem hampered her from getting adopted every time. Finally, after 11 long years, Wiggles, the longest shelter resident, is going to leave the shelter for good and is off to a fresh start with her newfound home.
In 2010, when Wiggles was only three years old, she was brought to the 5A’s Animal Shelter due to progressing allergies. Her family couldn’t afford the treatment and decided to hand the poor dog over to the shelter. Unfortunately, aside from allergies, it was discovered that she also had a large non-malignant tumor which is risky for removal considering her age. Although inexpensive to treat and manageable, it dissuaded many adopters.
As time passed, Wiggles remained in the shelter, and no one seems to be interested in adopting her. Luckily one day, a word about him being a candidate for adoption was shared on news sites, and that’s when the sweet Wiggles got lucky.
The time finally came
Finally, one couple out of the many others who expressed their desire to adopt the senior pup came by to take her in. The good-hearted couple even donated a considerable amount to the shelter. The staff knew then that Wiggles was in good hands.
The couple recently lost their pooch due to cancer. They decided to look for another dog to take care of after mourning for some time. With one look at Wiggles, they knew she is the best-fitting dog perfect for their family. The senior pup has finally found the loving family and home she truly deserves and gets to enjoy her remaining days happy and contented.
