Dog Finds Forever Home After Living In A Kansas City Shelter For Six Years

Merrick, a six-year-old pooch, lived in a Kansas City shelter for six years. He watched as people entered the shelter and filed adoption papers for dogs they fell in love with. He would get his hopes up as each guest came, and he would get his heart crushed as they left with another dog. That experience was harrowing for him.

He was almost convinced that he was bound to spend the rest of his life at the shelter. His fate changed when a benefactor invested $3,000 to have his picture posted up on a giant billboard.

The pooch patiently sat down through dozens of videos and photoshoots for a social media campaign. Merrick had no idea what was happening, but being the obedient dog that he was, he did everything they asked him to do.

When his photo appeared on the billboard, Jordan Nussbaum reached out to the shelter. He couldn’t believe that a dog as cute as Merrick had to wait that long to be adopted. Jordan talked to his girlfriend and convinced her that Merrick is the perfect addition to their family.

The couple had long been wanting to have kids, but they put that plan on hold when they saw Merrick. They fell in love with him during their first meeting at the shelter. He was a bit too big for their taste, but that didn’t matter. They knew in their hearts that Merrick was destined to be with them.

A bittersweet farewell

In the six years that Merrick had been staying in the shelter, he has forged strong relationships with the volunteers there. While it brought them so much joy knowing that he finally found his forever home, it also broke their hearts to see him go. They threw a farewell party for their best friend before finally seeing him off.
