Thanks to all the dogs working to help make our lives better!
There are many types of working dogs out there that make life easier for us. Some work the farms to help farmers with sheep or cow wrangling, some are emotional support dogs that help people suffering from anxiety, while others help people with physical disabilities, such as vision impairment, become more independent. These dogs are extremely smart and they improve the lives of people.
Anastasia Pagonis is an accomplished Paralympian. She competes in swimming and she’s also a part of the national team. Anastasia wasn’t always blind. However, she has an autoimmune and a genetic disease that gradually took her vision away from her. After losing her usable vision, Anastasia was no longer able to do the things she loved doing.
Anastasia used to play soccer but because of her vision impairment, she had to stop. Independence was a big thing for Anastasia, and losing her vision was devastating for her. Thankfully, she was approved for a guide dog and after waiting for months, she got a Labrador Retriever named Radar.
Radar helps Anastasia
Anastasia and Radar were the perfect fit. Radar is always a happy dog and she’s very much like Anastasia. After a couple of weeks of training with Anastasia, Radar learned everything about Anastasia and was able to help her get her independence back.
Anastasia eventually discovered swimming and she became really good at the sport. Radar would accompany Anastasia to the swimming pools and would wait patiently while Anastasia would do laps. When Anastasia finished her pool laps, Radar would be at the poolside ready to give Anastasia some wet puppy kisses.
Radar is also loved by everyone at the pool, including Anastasia’s teammates and coach. Radar would even get some peanut butter treats from Anastasia’s coach for doing a job well done and for waiting patiently for Anastasia while she trains. Anastasia is currently preparing for the Paralympics in Tokyo.
Knowing that she needed to walk a lot, she also trains Radar on long walks to help guide her and find her way around. Radar is incredibly smart and Anastasia couldn’t be prouder of her guide dog. Anastasia can’t imagine what her life would be like without Radar. Here’s a heartwarming and adorable video showing Radar helping Anastasia with her day-to-day life.
