Social media has been helping a lot of shelters find forever homes for their rescue dogs by expanding their reach from just local to even those farther away. And just recently, one big boy named Basher finally found his own home, thanks to the many people who helped share his story across different platforms. Without them, he would still probably be spending the holidays without a family.
Basher, a 130-pound giant Cane Corso, was first picked up as a stray and was transferred to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) in Cornwall from another facility. Right away, the shelter’s staff could tell that he was a sweet and friendly dog. But since he was a really big dog, it was obvious that he would need a really specific home.
Everything went well and after a long wait, Basher finally found himself a new home. The staff was all very happy for him though sadly, it ended up being a short-lived celebration. Despite Basher’s adoptive fur parents having experience with a breed like him, things didn’t work out and he wasn’t able to cope in his new home.
It was a sad moment but things like this happen and the staff, now more than ever, was motivated to find Basher a home. They started to focus on posting more about him and his story on their social media pages. They also encouraged people to share the posts and videos so that more would be able to see him. Words definitely spread around but none of it came to fruition.
One day, RSPCA made the joyous announcement that Basher has finally been adopted and for the first time in the longest time, he wouldn’t be celebrating Christmas in the kennels. They thanked everyone who made the time and space to share his story. It was a bittersweet moment for the shelter staff but their hearts were all at peace knowing that Basher now has a forever home.
