Wesley White was working as a photographer on Thatch Caye. While he was kayaking in the ocean between Thatch Caye and Ragamuffin Caye he decided to take a break to eat. As he was sitting there looking out across the water he saw a dog wagging its tail out of the corner of his eye.
Wesley decided to approach the pup and immediately realized how severely emaciated the dog was. His heart exploded out of his chest when he saw the poor animal’s condition.
Wesley quickly scrambled out of the kayak to see if anyone was in the fishing shack near where he found the dog wandering around. Nobody appeared, and Wesley started to worry because the dog he named Winston might fall in the ocean since he was walking on little wooden boardwalks.
Wesley said that Winston looked like he was waiting for a kind human to show up and rescue him. He grabbed an old pair of swimming trunks and used them to wrap up the dog.
Getting help for Winston
Wesley placed Winston in the kayak and started the mile trek back to the resort. He was worried because he was in a foreign country and had no idea if the people would help him.
Wesley shared that he was anxious because he was scheduled to fly home in less than 36 hours. When he arrived back on the island, everyone he came across helped him care for the dog.
The locals bought a couple of cans of dog food for Winston. Wesley said that the young bartender he came across contacted his friends, and they were the ones who guided him to where the closest animal clinic was.
The doctors examined and treated Winston. The vet told Wesley that Winston would recover nicely and that there was nothing major wrong with him. Winston was fostered for a couple of months while he recovered before Wesley was able to adopt him for good.
