Dog owners dread two things the most. Number one is losing their senior pet. Number two is for their pet to go missing.
Both scenarios prove to be heartbreaking, and it’s not something anyone could wish for even their worse enemies. These dogs become integral to a household, and once they are gone, they always leave a hole in the household fabric. Our featured story deals with the second scenario.
Joshua Edwards is a bonafide dog lover. Once, he took home a Rottweiler that he named Duke. One day he returned home to see that Duke had gone missing.
Fast forward to eight years later, Joshua was contacted by a pet chip company. The news they had for him was that Duke had been found. Joshua and Duke’s reunion was scheduled shortly after.
Watch this video to see Joshua tell his story. And please try your best not to cry.
In the video, Joshua nervously awaits his reunion with Duke. We can only assume what’s going on in his mind. Based on his demeanor, however, we can say that he’s excited and anxious in equal measures.
To make the scene a little lighter, we have to thank the cat sitting next to Joshua. The cat seems out of place in the video. He provides a sort of comic relief in what is easily a heart-tugging confessional.
Halfway through the video, Duke comes in. Joshua immediately pets Duke. The dog quickly recognizes Joshua and licks his hands and face.
Joshua fails at hiding his emotions. He starts to sob. We can feel the heartbreak and relief he feels for his returned dog, whom he did not get to love and protect the past eight years.
The woman who found Duke shares her excitement over Joshua and Duke’s reunion. She herself loves animals, and she can empathize with Joshua. Duke goes home with his dad, happy.
