Guardians of Rescue spent the last ten years trying to shut down a puppy mill in Tennessee. With the help of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, they built a case against the owners and ceased their operation for good. They managed to pull out hundreds of dogs that included a very pregnant Dachshund named Hazel.
Hazel was very shy and fearful when she first arrived in her foster home. The sudden change in her environment left her confused and frightened. She was also very insecure and spent most of her days inside her little kennel.
She needed space so her foster mom Janice let her come out of her shell in her own time. She sat with her without making direct eye contact. She gave her lots of treats and let her know she was there to help.
Hazel didn’t know how to be a dog. She never played with toys and wasn’t sure what to do with them, but she discovered little things every day. And when she finally picked up a toy and played with it, Janice was so happy to see her progress.
Two weeks later, Hazel went into labor. While she may have given birth to several litters in the past, she had no idea how to be a mom. When her first puppy came out, she didn’t know what to do. And then, the second puppy came, and the light bulb went off and everything went smoothly after that.
Mama Hazel gave birth to seven gorgeous puppies named Peppermint Bark, Rum Raisin, Marshmallow, Cookie Dough, Truffles, Bourbon Cream, and Praline. With the help of Janice’s grandchildren, she did a great job taking care of them. They spent a lot of time outside, playing and running around.
The puppies were about ten months old when they started to search for their forever homes. One by one, they left and joined their new forever families. Even Hazel found her happy ending.
Hazel’s new mom was so obsessed with her. She loved her the moment she saw her picture on social media. She knew they were meant to be together, forever.
