For every dog living in a safe and loving home, there’s another pup living dangerously on the streets. For stray dogs, every day is a fight against harmful elements. These elements include hunger, unfriendly weather, as well as humans who are intent to do evil things to them.
These elements turn a gentle pup into one who has toughened up well in order to survive in the wild. It’s no wonder why strays are often belligerent. For too long, they had to rely on their street smarts to survive.
So when you meet a stray that’s far from belligerent, it’s not easy to not be taken by surprise. Take, for instance, the stray pitbull Pity. This dog is not just a friendly stray, but she also happens to be a nurturing one.
Pity was saved from the streets of Dallas by the city’s animal rescuers. Pity looked starved and weak. The rescuers gave her food, which she ate with gusto.
Aside from starvation, Pity also showed signs of abuse or at least neglect. There were scrapes on her face, around the nose area. The Dallas rescuers also suspected that the dog must have given birth recently.
As to where her litter had gone, it’s safe to assume that they were taken away from our poor pitbull. So did Pity lose her chance at motherhood? Not quite.
As fate would have it, a newborn kitten had been abandoned by its mom. Pity saw the newborn kitten and took it upon herself to care for it. Pity nursed the kitten and protected her against the same elements she was subject to.
Pity’s story is truly inspiring. Not only did she not lose her gentle heart despite living as a stray, but the dog also mustered the kindness to take responsibility for a kitten that’s just as in need of help as she was.
