Babies and dogs can usually get along, given that the owners know how to train their dogs. If a dog has a history of being aggressive, then it can be worrying for the expecting mother. That’s why Stefanie asked Cesar Millan to help them with their dog named Nuts.
Stefanie and her husband found Nuts on a freeway. They decided to be his owner and give him the name Nuts. It seemed an appropriate name for the dog because he tended to be aggressive.
Stefanie works at a dance studio, so she meets people all the time. If someone wants to hug her, and Nuts is close to her, the dog will lash out at the other person. This has made Stefanie’s life more difficult.
People who are practicing inside the studio also find it difficult to concentrate while a dog is constantly barking at them. Also, Stefanie is pregnant, and she is more scared of how Nuts will be around her baby. The couple is afraid that they might have to give up ownership of their dog in the future.
Cesar points out that the way Stefanie is holding her dog contributes to the problem. Instead of holding Nuts, Cesar asks the owner to put the dog on the counter. When Cesar tried to hug Stefanie, Nuts didn’t get protective.
Once that occurred, Cesar assured the owners that Nuts wasn’t an aggressive dog. He was just nervous because the owners made him nervous. Cesar then demonstrates how to properly hold Nuts without provoking him.
Once Stefanie was holding her dog in a lower position than she usually does, other people were able to hug her without any issues. Stefanie now understood how her tense energy was transferred to her dog.
The next training involved establishing a boundary for Nuts. When it came to the bedroom, the dog is not allowed inside a certain area. Cesar demonstrates how to stop the dog from entering the area. For a few more sessions, the couple is going to practice the methods that Cesar taught them.
