Meet Slim, an 8-year-old German Shepherd who works for the Madison Police Department K-9 Unit as a service dog, and his partner the 27-year veteran Carren Corcoran. The inseparable duo have been partners since 2010 chasing criminals and helping communities.
Slim is a very good-natured dog who wholeheartedly accepts displays of affection. And he is loved by over a hundred police officers stationed at the city’s west district. They love to sneak him food and spoil him whenever he visits. He loves to play fetch and he plays it like a pro and he also loves to chew on his toys.
Slim’s favorite treat
Aside from chewing his toys, Slim also loves whipped cream. One time, Corcoran had to go get her coffee fix and when she pulled over the drive-through window, the barista serving her saw Slim at the backseat. The barista instantly fell in love with him and gave him his own whipped cream to enjoy. After that, he would always get excited whenever they would visit a café.
Slim’s easy-going personality had always helped Corcoran reach out to communities as people are more likely to respond to a cop with a dog. Aside from that, he has also been a great help in detecting drugs, tracking missing persons, and even chasing down people who were hiding from the law.
Slim helps keep bad guys off the street
One day in 2012 during an Independence fireworks finale at the city park, Corcoran received a message from police officers in a nearby homicide scene. They were informed that the suspect’s flip-flops were found and they needed to track him. The duo immediately came to the scene so that Slim could get a whiff of the scent.
After three hours, he had successfully led the officers to a house where the suspect stayed for the night which led to the bad guy’s arrest. And even with many years of working with Slim for six days a week, Corcoran was still in awe of his amazing tracking abilities. Slim does his work excellently as a police dog and he is truly one of the best.
