Walking your dog is a vital part of dog ownership. If a dog doesn’t get enough walks, it can do risky things that will put itself in danger. One family resorted to locking their dog inside a fenced backyard pool. Dog expert Victoria Stilwell is on a mission to help the family get better at handling their dog.
Peanut Butter is bored out of her mind. She has chewed on lights, and the yard is full of glass and plastic shards. This is a very concerning scene for the dog trainer. According to the family, they had to do this because Peanut Butter is so hard to handle during walks.
The owner demonstrates how she walks Peanut Butter. The owner cannot control her dog, and the dog chokes herself with the leash during walks. After seeing this, Victoria came up with a three-part plan to remedy the situation.
The first part of the plan is cleaning up the yard. The entire family was involved in the clean-up. It’s the only time they have ever done this to Peanut Butter’s area. Dog poop was removed, and all the glass and debris were removed. Furthermore, Victoria provided an elevated dog house for Peanut Butter so she can have a comfy area to rest.
The next step was to teach the owner how to use a head leash. Victoria also instructed the owner on how to handle dogs who pull on the leash. It took Victoria two returns before the owner correctly understood how to use a head leash.
Lastly, Victoria brought Peanut Butter and her owner to an agility training facility. Since she is a dog who had a lot of energy to spend, this was a perfect place for her. The dog trainer at the facility managed to introduce Peanut Butter to the course fairly quickly. The dog absolutely loved the experience.
