Often, the process of making a stray dog trust someone takes a while. This is why certain animal rescue operations last for days and weeks. In the case of the rescuer Danny Spanks, it took him several days to win over the trust of a pit bull.
Danny came across the pit bull named JJ at a parking lot. Locals have reported that the dog had been there for more than 5 months. It was obvious by the way the dog acted that he didn’t want to be bothered.
Danny believed that with each that passed, the dog would go closer to him. However, it didn’t pan out as he had planned. JJ’s trust was not constant. One day the dog would be trusting; the next day, not so much.
Danny decided to use a trap to rescue JJ. However, the dog never entered it despite all the lures. He would eat the food but never step inside the trap.
One day Danny found a small fenced area near the parking lot. He decided to lure JJ there instead of using a trap. Eventually, Danny managed to get the dog into that area and put a leash on him.
Once JJ was in Danny’s hands, he behaved so well. It seemed like he was a trained house dog. It could also be because Danny has built trust with the dog over time.
Danny found a good foster home for JJ. They then changed his name to Ruger and cared for him like their own dog. Coincidentally, the family also has a dog who Ruger can play with.
Danny has one important message to anyone who looks at Ruger. He says that he is a good dog despite how he looks. No stigma will ever change the fact that Ruger is an amazing dog who is worth rescuing.
