A man brought his three 11-year-old dogs, Candy, Angel, and Katie to the Spokane Humane Society. He wanted them to be put down because they bite. But luckily the shelter had other ideas. The staff at the shelter believed that the animals could be treated, and they turned out to be right.
Their owner had told the shelter staff that the dogs also often showed aggressive behavior.
Upon arrival at the shelter, all three Shih Tzus had thick, matted, decomposing fur. They also had nails that were so long they curved like buck horns. They had bad teeth and weren’t smelling so good.
These poor dogs were most likely in a lot of pain.
After convincing the owner to leave the dogs at the shelter, the staff started taking extensive care of them. They worked on the dogs by trimming their matted and tangled hair for six hours. Around 13 pounds of hair was taken off the dogs! This revealed cuts, sores, and infections. The dogs were given a bath and were given medical treatment.
More medical treatment was required to help these pups recover. So after asking for help from their Facebook followers and the community, the shelter was able to raise $3,400 dollars!
“We knew we’d probably find some health issues under all that fur, but what we also found were three handsome – though slightly chubby – little dogs with easy-going personalities,” the society wrote in a social media post.
The recovery could have never been done without the help of the organization. The credit goes to all the staff members and the people who contributed to the treatment.
The organization was happy to help the three sweet canines who had started showing their true selves after recovering.
The dogs now look very different from their previous shape. It was due to the exorbitant care provided by the shelter staff that the puppies transformed from a miserable situation to an adorable condition and look great now. The pups have now all been adopted into new loving homes.
