Lela Bucek, president of the animal rights and welfare group in Serbia called ORPAK, received a message that someone dumped a young puppy on the streets. Without any hesitation, she quickly responded and drove straight to where the puppy was first seen. And when she arrived at the site, her heart broke.
The 2-month-old puppy was so thin, weak, and dirty. She couldn’t stand upright because her legs were distorted. She tried but she fell over and over again. But more than her physical ordeal, she was also terrified of everything that surrounded her.
The rescuer gently scooped up the puppy she later on named Zita. She took her to the rescue shelter and gave her time to adjust to her new environment. She gave the little one her own space and assured her she’s in a safe place.
The following morning, Zita went to see the vet and the doctors established that she suffered from malnutrition and dehydration, parasite infestation, and weakening of the bones. She received treatment against parasites and was also prescribed supplements and vitamins to boost her health. Likewise, she underwent therapy sessions to build muscle mass.
A lot of people thought it would take quite a while before Zita’s condition improves. But because she’s a brave little girl, she thrived. And she stunned everyone at ORPAK when she showed great improvement within just seven days.
Zita’s legs corrected in a very short time. She was stronger, hence, she was able to stand on her own and soon began walking and running around the shelter’s yard. And once she was ready, she moved into a different location and met the rest of the rescue dogs.
Within a few months, Zita completely healed. She was healthier, stronger, and much more energetic. She also became happier because, at last, she’s able to enjoy life. But little did she know that something greater was on its way, and she was so happy when she finally received the good news.
Zita’s new mom, Ciric, fell deeply in love with her. She didn’t think twice when she saw her photos, and she knew right away that she belonged with her and her daughter.
