Fostering takes courage. It is never easy. Nevertheless, we do it in the name of love, which makes it an extraordinary act.
Minda saw a picture of two dogs hunched over in a corner holding onto each other. The dogs looked broken; all they had left was each other. They needed to learn what love felt like, and Minda wanted to be the one to teach them.
Minda and her husband rushed to the shelter to bring them home as foster dogs. Louie, the smaller black dog, was still timid and scared. And the other one is Bridget, who kept Louie safe each day. She always stood up tall and kept an eye out for Louie.
Bridget and Louie have more trust with each other than anyone else. When they were finally home, Bridget and Louis were finally able to relax for the first time in their lives.
Bridget and Louie weren’t used to being in a home. So Minda and her husband had to teach and train them. Still, Louis is attached to Bridget and would sleep wherever Bridget sleeps.
Minda was amazed by how Bridget and Louie opened up just by being in a home. And when they got introduced to Minda’s other dogs, Minda and her husband were able to witness a change within them.
Bridget and Louie were opening up more each day. They are still extremely attached to each other and impossible to separate. When they were ready to be adopted, they needed to be together.
The moment Monica reached out to Minda, Minda knew that Monica is going to be their mom. Monica has been following Bridget and Louie’s story for months from the very first photo of them huddled together in the shelter.
In fostering, it is never easy to let go. But at the end of the day, we have to give each dog a better life they deserve each day.
